How much topsoil do I need?
Multiply area by depth, then convert to cubic yards (27 cubic feet each). Topsoil weighs roughly 1.1 tons per cubic yard dry (more when wet). For a new lawn, 4–6 inches gives roots room to establish; for topdressing an existing lawn, 1–2 inches is plenty.
